Areas of Practice
Ms. McKim is a shareholder who has been with the firm since 2001 and practices in the areas of appellate law, family law, mediations, and general civil litigation.
She received her certification in Family Law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in 2007. Her diverse family law practice includes extensive experience with complex property situations, high net-worth estates, children’s issues, foreign and domestic adoptions, and grandparent interventions. As a mediator, she assists other attorneys and their clients through the process of finding creative solutions for families outside of the courtroom.
Ms. McKim serves on the State Bar of Texas Family Law Section Council and currently fills the role of Chair-Elect. The section seeks to promote professionalism, education, and excellence in the practice of family law, and Ms. McKim is a frequent speaker for State Bar continuing legal education programs on various family law issues. She is also a member of Collaborative Divorce Texas and believes the best solutions for families in transition are found by educating, empowering, and encouraging parties to customize agreements that lead to the best possible result for the modified family unit.
Ms. McKim practices extensively in the area of appellate law, carrying her own cases through appeal, if necessary, or assisting clients who were in trial with other attorneys to maneuver through the appellate process. Her appellate experience includes contract and commercial cases, family law, arbitration, procedural issues, and personal injury.
Ms. McKim is a member and past president of the Lubbock Area Bar Association, a member of the Texas Association of Family Law Specialists, and a past president of the Lubbock County Young Lawyers Association. In 2015, she was appointed by the Texas Supreme Court to serve on the Board of Law Examiners, the agency responsible for determining that applicants seeking to be licensed to practice law in Texas meet the qualifications set by the Supreme Court of Texas. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Guy D. Newman Honors Academy at Howard Payne.
Ms. McKim has been recognized by Thomson Reuter as a Super Lawyer each year since 2017 and was previously recognized as a Rising Star in 2007 and 2014-15. Texas Tech School of Law awarded her a Rising Stars award in 2016.
